Even without waiting for the approval of federal government, the provincial government issued another statement on Saturday stating that Sardar Abdul Majeed Dasti has been appointed as the acting IG of Sindh.

Responding to this, A.D. Khawaja refused to leave the IG Office before the issuance of a notification by the federal government, according to sources.

The top cop reportedly took the stancethat he was appointed by the federation and won't leave charge until asked by the centre.

According to the Sindh police, the officer had even taken charge of the temporary appointment.

With both the officers serving as IG, it is bound to leave the department in turmoil.

Dasti was given the additional charge of Sindh IG along with his post as the Additional Inspector-General (AIG) police, research and development, inspections and enquires.

Moreover, in an earlier notification pertaining to A.D. Khawaja surrendering his services, Sindh government had recommended three names in his place including Ghullam Qadir Thebo, currently serving as Chairman, Enquiries and Anti-Corruption Establishment, Sindh and Khadim Hussain Bhatti, currently serving as Additional Inspector General, Traffic, Sindh, along with Dasti.

Khawaja's 'forced leave'

Last year, Sindh government and federal government had engaged in a tug-of-war pertaining to A.D. Khawaja’s appointment. On December 19, 2016, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah had discharged A.D. Khawaja of all duties and sent him on 15-day leave. Responsibilities of IG Sindh Police were handed over to Additional IG Mushtaq Mehar, according to a notification.

The notification said that Khawaja went ona 15-day leave due to 'personal reasons'.

A.D. Khawaja had taken the charge as IG Sindh in March 2016, replacing Ghulam Haider Jamali, who was sacked in March 2016 after corruption charges.
