Eighteen fire tenders took part in extinguishing the blaze

KARACHI: A fire that broke out in the basement of a residential building in Karachi on Friday, was doused after 23 hours of intense efforts by the fire brigade department, officials said.

Eighteen fire tenders, two water bowsers, and 40 water hydrants took part in the operation to douse the fire that erupted in the basement of a building in Karachi's Nazimabad no. 4 area early Friday.

Firefighters were faced with difficulties to extinguish the fire due to the absence of an air passage system in the basement.

The building was being used for commercial purposes, which slowed down the fire extinguishing process, rescue sources said.

No loss of life was reported, as the building was evacuated in a timely manner.

The process of cooling is underway in the basement.
