Mayor Karachi submits suggestions in court on heavy traffic ban
Akhtar suggested that the National Highway and Super Highway link roads be expanded to have three lanes
KARACHI: The Sindh High Court on Saturday directed the secretary transport to submit a report on the implementation of the ban on the entry of heavy traffic in the city from 6AM to 11PM.
The SHC had in March banned the entry of heavy traffic in the city in the wake of increasing number of casualties due to road accidents.
During the hearing, the court reprimanded the DIG traffic for allowing heavy traffic in the city during the strike by goods transporters, saying the traffic cannot be allowed without a written order by the court.
Mayor Karachi Waseem Akhtar also presented his traffic plan and informed the court that the committee—ordered by the court to devise a long-lasting solution to the issue comprising all stakeholders—has been formed. The mayor submitted names of members, terms of reference and suggestions in the court.

The chief legal adviser of the Board of Revenue also submitted his reply in the court.
The DIG Traffic in his report submitted to the court said the accidents had gone down by 70% due to the ban.
The court has adjourned the hearing till May 27.
