MARDAN: The garden campus of Abdul Wali Khan University — where student Mashal Khan was brutally murdered by a violent mob on April 13 — was reopened on Thursday.

Strict security arrangements were in place at the varsity as classes resumed.

The university was closed down following the student's killing on alleged charges of blasphemy.

Pro vice chancellor of the varsity, Dr Jehanzeb Khalil, told the media the police and local administration are helping the university in their endeavour to resume classes.

Dr Khalil said the semester will likely continue during the summer break so course work is completed after the closure of the entire varsity following Mashal’s killing.

The main campus of the varsity was opened on Monday, and its shankar campus reopened on Wednesday. Before its opening on Monday, police conducted a search operation in the main campus and recovered several arms, ammunition and drugs from the hostels.
