Panamagate verdict: Jahanghir Tareen calls decision ‘historic’

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaaf General Secretary Jahangir Tareen called the Supreme Court’s decision on Panama Papers, ‘a historic decision’.

Speaking to reporters outside the Supreme Court, he said : “a new chapter of history has been written today and decision came through the efforts of Imran Khan, PTI workers and supporters,” he added, “Pakistanis had lost hope for justice but Imran Khan was the lone person who did not lose hope.”

The PTI has also decided to hold a rally at Islamabad's Parade Ground on Sunday to observe Youm-e-Tashakkur [Thank You Day].

Tareen said that Pakistan had been rid of a corrupt prime minister, stressing that Nawaz Sharif would have to adhere to the decision of the Supreme Court.

The PTI leader said that a foundation for a new Pakistan has been laid.

The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Friday disqualified Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for failing to disclose his un-withdrawn receivables constituting assets from UAE-based Capital FZE in his nomination papers for the 2013 elections.

Announcing their verdict in the Panama Papers case, all five judges ruled to send a reference against the premier, his three children and others to an accountability court.

The court ordered the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to file a reference against the accused in an accountability court in six weeks and directed for the trial to be wrapped up within six months.

Meanwhile, Vice Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Shah Mehmood Qureshi in his presser said that with the Supreme Court`s decision on Panama case now nation will start to test the politicians, we are thankful to almighty for the decision.

He added that his party will take ahead its vision of ‘Naya Pakistan’.

“We don't want to waste the sacrifices of our ancestors,” he said.
