KARACHI: Private schools in Karachi will remain closed for a second consecutive day on Thursday, a day after the city shut down following a Rangers raid on the Muttahida Qaumi Movement's 'Nine-Zero' headquarters.

Businesses and commercial activity, however, will open as usual today.

The All Private Schools Management Association said schools would stay shut keeping in mind the tense situation in Karachi.

Examinations at all private schools scheduled for Thursday have also been postponed until further notice, it said.

Meanwhile, the All Karachi Tajir Ittehad said that markets and commercial centres throughout the city will open as usual.

Following the raid by Rangers early Wednesday morning, the MQM had announced a day of protest and had asked transporters and traders to keep their businesses and commercial activities suspended for the day.

However, MQM leader Faisal Sabzwari said the party will also observe a 'day of mourning' on Thursday, but had not appealed to traders and businessmen to suspend commercial activity.
