Flood threat in Gadap after Thado dam breach

A breach in the dam had also occurred in 2015, Geo News reported

KARACHI: A 150-feet breach in the Thado dam led to thousands of cusecs of water gushing out and flooding nearby areas on Thursday.

Reports emerged that Usman Khaskheli Goth and Amir Bux Goth, housing 6,000 residents, alongwith Saadi Town have been flooded as a result of the breach.

Following this, PAF Base Faisal issued an alert pertaining to floodthreat and ordered relevant authorities to take precautionary measures.

After a video of the breach surfaced, thegovernment took action and also asked for Pakistan Armed Forces' help in the rescue operations.

The rescue operationsareunder way and residents are being evacuated.

Thado dam is a retention dam built near Karachi on Malir river for storing rain water.

A breach in the dam had also occurred in 2013, Geo News reported.

The flooding in addition to heavy rainfall in the morning has further disrupted the lives of the area residents.

At least 13 people, including four children, were killed as the metropolis was battered with heavy rainfall on Thursday after initial light showers a day before, Geo News reported.

Heavy rainfall started late Wednesday night, resulting in disruption of power supply to many areas of the city.
