ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that the ruling party is in blatant violation of code of conduct for NA-120 election campaign while PTI continues to abide by the rules.
Addressing media here after a meeting with Secretary Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), Qureshi said that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Bilal Yasin failed to appear before the ECP despite being summoned three times in a code of conduction violation case. Yasin had said that he will not partake in election campaign for Kulsoom Nawaz, PML-N’s candidate for NA-120, but continued with the campaign, Qureshi said.
“A clear message should be given that abiding by the code of conduct is mandatory,” he said.
The PTI leader said that the constituency’s “Pakhtoon vote” is with the PTI, adding that their CNICs have been blocked and their names have been removed from the voter list.
He asked NADRA to disclose why the CNICs have been blocked, and asked the authority to not be a “hurdle in the way of transparent elections”.
“NADRA should not violate the sanctity of the institution,” Qureshi said.
PTI has protested the alleged violation of code of conduct by PML-N several times and has demanded the ECP to take stricter measures to curb it.
NA-120 fell vacant after former prime minister Nawaz Sharif was disqualified by the Supreme Court in the Panama papers case.
