My Pure Land is a modern-day feminist Western, set to hit UK cinemas on September 15, will take you on an incredible journey through its protagonists.

Based on a true story, British-Pakistani director Sarmad Masud’s debut movie portrays the moment Pakistani woman Nazo Dharejo and her two daughters defended their land from the 200 heavily armed men that sought to claim it as a part of a familial feud.

The movie has been shot in guerilla style in Pakistan itself and premiered at the Edinburgh Film Festival earlier this year.

As he narrates Dharejo’s story through the film, the director switches between the incident itself and the events that led up to it.

The movie is based on a true story that portrays Dharejo’s strength and resolve to fight against the oppressive and often violent patriarchal system that most Pakistani women face throughout their lives.

My Pure Land is a drama that is both tense and claustrophobic; it is a new spin on the most classic genres in film.
