Denied entry: Woman gives birth outside Lahore hospital

The Punjab health secretary has suspended the emergency director of Ganga Ram Hospital over the incident

LAHORE: A woman was forced to give birthoutside the premises of the Ganga Ram Hospital in Lahore after allegedly being denied entry by the medical superintendent.

The woman was later shifted to the ward but by then had given birth to a baby boy.

Her family members claimed that the hospital's medical superintendent had not allowed her to be admitted owing to lack of beds and staff.

Later, Punjab Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique suspended the hospital’s emergency director Dr Abdul Ghaffar.

The chief minister had also ordered aninquiry into the incident, for which a three-member committee has been formed by the minister.

Speaking to the media, Rafique said the inquiry body will investigate any "gaps" in the treatment meted out to the woman and come up with its report soon.

Earlier this week, a woman gave birth outside the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital (THQ), Raiwind after she was reportedly refused treatment.
