SHARJAH: To reduce the risk of fatal accidents, the Sharjah police organised an event to educate Pakistani community on the importance of following traffic rules.
The lecture, titled 'Driving Safety', was arranged by a private cricket coach, who based in Sharjah, and Pakistani social worker Kashif Chaudry in coordination with the Department of Traffic and Patrols of Sharjah police.
During the bilingual lecture, which was delivered in English and Urdu, Khalid Noor of Sharjah Police Department of Traffic and Patrols urged the motorists to ensure the safety of tyres periodically, along withthe validity of the vehicle in general.
After the event, prizes were distributed among the motorists, who correctly answered questions pertaining to traffic rules.
Speaking to Geo News, Khalid Noor said that the police have formulated a strategy to make roads more secure and achieve the highest levels of traffic safety for motorists in the UAE.
The awareness lecture targetted all segments of Pakistani community; from school students to bus drivers, as well as women drivers.
On the occasion, Kashif Chaudry remarked that session endeavours to spread awareness regarding traffic rules and encourage people to become more responsible.
During the session, the police officers advised the communityondifferent ways toavoidaccidents.
A number of leaflets, in Arabic, English and Urdu, were also distributed among the community members.
A study on traffic accidents in the emirates revealed that the main causes of accidents are sudden swerving, lack of attention, speeding, and failure to leave adequate distance between vehicles.
