ISLAMABAD: The Federal Interior Ministry on Thursday said that Saulat Mirza – the former MQM activist and a death row convict, whose execution has been postponed after he hurled grave allegation on his former party and its chief Altaf Hussain – was not forced to record the confession video.

Sources in the ministry told Geo News that Mirza confessed without any outside pressure and his family was not in touch with anyone in this regard.

They said that the death row inmate expressed his desire to give out a statement based on facts during a meeting with her sister Sumera Wajahat three days ago.

The sources added that Mirza’s family had apprised the high officials after the said meeting.

The interior ministry also said Saulat Mirza made the decision to record the statement after hearing Altaf Hussain's interview on Geo News programme “Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Saath”.

The MQM chief in the show had said that he had (just) heard of Saulat Mirza's name and that he should be hanged if he was guilty.

Meanwhile, Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar telephoned Governor Sindh Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan saying nothing would be done out of the ambit of law. Current law and order situation of the province and Saulat Mirza’s confession video was discussed during the conversation.

Earlier, the governor had categorically ruled out the reports that he was considering to resign from his post. Speaking to Geo News, the governor said that he neither tendered his resignation nor has he decided to do so.

Saulat Mirza, in his video confession last night, alleged that the party through the governor provides shelter to criminal party workers.

He also said the order to kill the MD KESC had been passed on to him by Babar Ghauri, the then MNA of MQM. Mirza said MQM chief Altaf Hussain used to carry his messages through Babar Ghauri.
