Encroachers block entrance to blood bank in Karachi
Administration of Hussaini Blood Bank has urged KMC to take action against encroachments in the area
KARACHI: The ongoing anti-encroachment drive in the metropolis which started from Empress Market in Saddar continues to remove illegal settlements from the city.
However, despite the Supreme Court-mandated anti-encroachment drive some areas of the city continue to be occupied. Geo News has learnedthat Hussaini Blood Bank, Green Shield Public School and a madrasa in Qalandaria Chowk are at the encroachers' risk.
According to Hussaini Blood Bank’s chief pathologistDr Omer Daraz, the main entrance of the blood bank, school and madrasa have been encroached upon by the timber mafia. “When we ask them to clean it up, they threaten us,” he said.
With a staff of 700 and more than 1,500 children with blood disorders visiting the blood bank for treatment, ambulances and patients find it difficult to enter the building.
The school and madrasa staff voiced similar concern and said that due to the encroachments the students and schools staff have to use a small gate located at the back of the street to enter the school premises.
The administrations of the blood bank, school and madrasa have urged the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) to take action against encroachments in the area.
Senior Director of Anti Encroachment KMC Bashir Siddiqui has assured that the encroachments will be removed, however, he did not mention a time frame.
