ISLAMABAD: Jamiat Ulema Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rahman has embarked on a mission to bring Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leadership closer, sources said Saturday, as he held a second meeting with Asif Ali Zardari in less than 24 hours.

The meeting between Fazl and Zardari lasted for half an hour, sources said, during which the two figures exchanged views on overall situation of the country.

They said the two party heads expressed concerns over actions against opposition parties, and held consultation over a future course of action of the opposition.

The sources said Fazl also made an effort for a meeting between Zardari and former premier Nawaz Sharif.

"All grievances should be put aside in current situation," the JUI-F chief was quoted as suggesting the PPP co-chairman at the meeting.

"All opposition parties should sit together and carve out a strategy."

However, a spokesman for Asif Ali Zardari denied Nawaz's mention during the meeting.

"The meeting held an exchange of view on political situation of the country," Zardari's spokesman Amir Fida Paracha said.

"There was no mention of Nawaz Sharif at the meeting," Paracha added.
