Leaders of Senate committees on Sahiwal encounter meet face-to-face

'Will bring the investigative report into public light,' IGP Punjab Amjad Saleemi said

SAHIWAL: The leaders of the twoSenate standing committees on the tragic Sahiwal encounter met face-to-face on Friday, Geo News reported.

Rehman Malik, the chairperson of the Senate Standing Committee on Interior,said there cannot be a debate until theinvestigative report is completed.

Barrister Javed Abbasi responded that under his leadership, theSenate Standing Committee on Law and Justice had already rejected the setting up of a joint investigation team (JIT) but warned that attempts were being made to suppress the matter.

Briefing the Senate Standing Committee on Interior,Fazeel Asghar, the secretary of theinterior for Punjab, said Zeeshan was definitely a terrorist, that there was too much luggage in the car's rear side, and that people sitting inside could not be seen clearly.

Amjad Saleemi, the inspector-general of police (IGP) for Punjab, echoed Committee chairpersonMalik's comments, saying it was inadvisable to have a debate before the JIT released its report.

"Wewill bring the investigative report into public light," he said.

However,heated words were exchanged during the Committee meeting between IG Punjab Saleemi and Senator Kulsoom Parveen, with the latter threatening to file a privilege motion against the former.
