Loud explosions, gunfire near Kandahar governor's office

KANDAHAR: Loud explosions, followed by gunfire heard near the compound of the governor of Afghanistan's southern Kandahar province on Saturday, an eyewitness said.

It was not immediately clear what had caused the explosions or whether there were any casualties.

The Reuters reporter said he could see gunmen firing at the governor's compound in the centre of Kandahar city.
