LAHORE: The military leadership was busy late night in consultations with regard to its briefing to the joint sitting of parliament today (Friday), it was learnt.

Sources said that the top brass of the three services had taken stock of the situation in the wake of Osama bin Laden’s killing by the US forces in Abbottabad.

According to sources, the Army chief, Gen Asfaq Parvez Kayani, was likely to throw the ball into the parliament’s court, asking the parliamentarians to devise the policy vis-i-vis the war on terror and Pakistan’s relations with the US and India. He would seek specific guidance from parliament on how to engage terrorists, the US and India.

Gen Kayani would ask parliament to devise and decide the policy and would assure the parliamentarians that the policy would be accepted and followed in letter and spirit. “Tell us what to do, and we would do it” would be Kayani’s message to parliament.

A security source, requesting anonymity, said that the military leadership was perturbed at being negatively associated with a discredited government’s bad decisions, including the Raymond Davis episode.

Therefore, the official said, Gen Kayani, while he would be seeking parliamentary guidance on key issues, would also clear the impression he was hand in glove with President Zardari.
