Munir was upset over media reports that NAB had granted approval to file a reference against him, say family sources

ISLAMABAD: Former member of the Capital Development Authority (CDA), Brigadier (retd) Asad Munir, has committed suicide, police sources said on Friday.

Munir's body was found hanging from a ceiling fan at his apartment in Islamabad's diplomatic enclave, the police sources said. He was also a former intelligence operative.

Munir was upset over media reports that ran a day earlier stating that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) during its executive board meeting had granted approval for the filing of a reference against him, family sources said. NAB had accused Munir of misusing his authority and restoring a plot in F-11 area of the federal capital.

The family of the deceased requested not to perform an autopsy of the body. The family's request was accepted by the Islamabad deputy commissioner and subsequently the body was returned upon the completion of legal formalities.

Munir will be laid to rest in H-8 graveyard.

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari extended condolences over Munir's demise.
