KARACHI: Victims of loadshedding and petrol shortage, the Karachiites are now facing price hike of vegetables, Geo news reported.

The price of tomato has been raised from Rs.8-10 to Rs.20-25 per kilogram in the wholesale market while its retail price is raised to Rs45-50/kg.

The same is seen in the price of onion. A week before the price of commodity was Rs.200 per 40kg in the wholesale market but now it is being sold at Rs.450. Owing to this unprecedented hike, the retail price of onion has reached to Rs.20 to Rs25/kg.

“The end of tomato crop in Sindh and delay in fresh crop of onion are the reasons for mounting prices. Due to improper planning and no control over prices allow retailers to increase to their will resulting general public suffers. Government should take some steps to control price hike and to provide relief to masses in Ramazan”, said Haji Shahjahan, President wholesale vegetable market while talking to Geo News.
