Cleanliness campaign work to continue after October 21 through daily communication between SSWMA, DMCs, and provincial government

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah on Sunday said the Clean Karachi campaign was scheduled to end on October 21 but that waste management — despite improvements — was still unsatisfactory.

The garbage situation in Pakistan's southern port city was significantly bad, Shah acknowledged, noting that although 70 percent of the trash had been removed, 30 percent still remained.

The waste management system, he said, was somewhat better but still not up to the mark. The cleanliness campaign is set to end by October 21, following which theSindh Solid Waste Management Authority (SSWMA) and the district municipal corporations (DMCs) have been directed to communicate on a daily basis for work.

The Sindh CM toured various localities of Pakistan's industrial and economic hub, observing and analysing the conditions of the roads as well as the cleaning work.
