Karachi first stop in effort to turn Sindh into no-encroachment zone: top official
Karachi's areas Tariq Road and Saddar, as well as surroundings of various hospitals, will be wiped clean of encroachments
KARACHI: The director of the Anti Encroachment Cell, Tariq Dharejo, on Thursday named Pakistan's economic hub as the first stop in an effort to turn the entire Sindh province into a no-encroachment zone.
According to Dharejo, the anti-encroachment force has decided to remove all encroachments from everywhere in the province, including in Karachi, where they aim to send bulldozers to Tariq Road and Saddar, as well as in the surroundings of Jinnah Post Graduate Medical Center, Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, and Dr Ruth K.M. Pfau Civil Hospital, to raze down kiosks and other small roadside businesses.

The director said there would be action against the land-grabbing mafia in Tariq Road and anti-encroachment operations in Saddar and the aforementioned hospitals.
According to him, the inspector-general (IG) of police for Sindh has stationed model station house officers (SHOs) in Surjani Town and Manghopir where the newly-appointed police officials would carry out operations against the local land-grabbing mafias.
There was almost a 90 percent reduction inland-grabbing activities, Dharejo noted, adding that they would request model SHOs for Ibrahim Hyderi as well and expand theanti-encroachment operation throughout Sindh.
