PESHAWAR: A 70 km Independence Day Cycle Race, an annual feature of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Cycling Association, will be paddled off from Ring Road Bridge over GT Road on July 10.

Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Cycling Association Nisar Ahmad said that all arrangements have been made for organizing the Independence Day Cycle Race on July 10 because of the forthcoming Ramzan-ul-Mubariq, falling in August this year. President of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Nisar said that the Independence Day race is an annual feature and a calendar event of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Cycling Association for this purpose it was decided to hold the race on July 10 in which 60 cyclists from all the affiliated districts would take part.

After the 70-km race from ring road Peshawar to Nowshera and back at 2.30 p.m, the presentation ceremony will be held at 7.00 p.m at Qayyum Sports Complex with Director General Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sports Board Engineer Khanzeb Khan will grace the occasion as chief guest.

He said during the race a selection committee headed by Syed Azhar Ali Shah with other members comprising international cyclist Murad Ali, Iftikhar Khan would short-list cyclists for the forthcoming Quetta to Ziarat Race to be starting from July 18, 2011.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Cycling team would leave for Quetta on July 16. He said a total of six-member cycling team would take part.
