LAHORE: Clashes took place between police and brokers after the transfer of Kot Lakhpat’s Sabzi Mandi to Kahna Monday, Geo News reported.

After being pelted with stones, police used tear gas and aerial firing to disperse the protestors. An official truck was burnt by the protestors and they blocked traffic at Ferozepur Road.

The rioting started when police and local administration stopped the brokers and trucks from entering Kot Lakhpat Sabzi Mandi. The brokers were directed to move to Kahna, but they refused to listen to the official orders.

They claimed that according to the High Court’s decision they should be given adequate time before being moved to Kahna. What started out as rioting turned into a clash between police and brokers. When the protestors could not be controlled by tear gas shelling, police had to use aerial firing to disperse them.
