KARACHI: Rangers have been deployed at major installations of KESC across Karachi owing to fear of attacks, Geo News reported.
According to Sindh Rangers’ spokesperson Major Bilal Farooq, Rangers have taken control of major KESC installations including the grid stations.
He also told the reporters that additional force has been deployed at the company’s head office in Gizri to avoid any violent incidents.
Major Farooq said that no interruptions would be allowed in the company’s functions and in the supply of electricity to the city. He added that if any act of violence took place, then Rangers reserve the right to act accordingly.
Before Rangers’ deployment, KESC had stopped field operations demanding the government to provide security to its employees who are willing to work.
Earlier, Governor Ishratul Ebad has directed KESC to provide relief to consumers by ensuring the availability of electricity. He directed KESC officials to concentrate on decreasing the hours of loadshedding rather than closing field operations.
The Governor had also summoned a meeting of the KESC officials to discuss the loadshedding in the metropolis.
