LAHORE: Incidence of malaria, typhoid, diarrhea, dengue fever, sun stroke and others diseases are on the rise during the monsoon season.

Medical Director of Children Hospital Prof. Dr Ahasan Waheed Rathore said that the diseases could be prevented with precautionary measures and advised people to consume boiled water and hygiene should be maintained in food and lifestyles.

He said that the number of the patients, suffering from viral and bacterial diseases, like diarrhea, scabies, bronchitis, asthma, malaria, typhoid, dengue fever has also been on the rise due to the monsoon season.

He informed that cholera is one of the extremely virulent infections and it is caused by a bacterium known as Vibrio Cholera, which thrives in areas where proper environmental management is scarce.

"The contaminated water and unhygienic food was also causing typhoid, adding an eye-ailment, called conjunctivitis, is also increasing among people," he added.

A considerable increase in the number of cases of gastro and diarrhea has been registered and the majority of cases includes children, he observed.

He also advised that adequate quantity of ORS to the affected children should be consumed so as to maintain required level of minerals in their bodies.
