NAB gives clean chit to PM's Special Assistant Zulfi Bukhari

A NAB notification read that the decision to close inquiry against Bukhari was approved owing to lack of evidence

ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Thursday gave a clean chit to Prime Minister Imran Khan's special assistant on overseas Pakistanis and human resource development, Zulfi Bukhari, as the anti-graft watchdog's chairperson, Justice (R) Javed Iqbal, approved closing the inquiry against the politician.

According to a notification from the anti-corruption body, the decision to close the inquiry againstBukhari was approved owing to lack of evidence.

New references againstZardari, Nawaz

Separately, the NABapprovednine new inquiries in a meeting of the its executive board.

It approved new corruption references against former president Asif Ali Zardari and former prime ministerYousaf Raza Gilani —both leaders of the Pakistan People's Party — as well as former premier and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz's (PML-N) supremo, Nawaz Sharif.

All three politicians are accused of handing out gift vehicles from the Toshakhana or (the gift depository) against low prices. Gilani and Nawaz have been questioned about the vehicles earlier.

Further, an inquiry against the administration of Islamabad Police's Safe City Project was approved.

Inquiries against a member of the National Assembly (MNA), Sardar Ashiq Hussain Gopang, and the former member of the Punjab Assembly (MPA), Chaudhry Shaukat Mahmood Basra, were also approved.
