MULTAN: United Nations (UN) Special Envoy to Pakistan Mr Rauf Engin Soysal visited the mausoleum of renowned saint of South Asia Hazrat Shah Rukn-e-Alam here on Tuesday.

The UN envoy took keen interest in the architecture of the seven centuries old monument that had won the Agha Khan Award in 1983 for best conserved historical building.

Mr. Rauf Engin Soysal visited different parts of the mausoleum including its interior and the spacious courtyard.

The special UN envoy, who had earlier served as Turkish Ambassador to Pakistan, enjoyed the view of the city from the courtyard of the mausoleum that was built during the Tughlaq period on a high mound of the ancient city Multan also known as "The City of Saints.

SDO Punjab archaeology department Multan Malik Ghulam Mohammad gave a briefing to the UN envoy on history and architecture of the mausoleum besides the services rendered by the great saint for the people of this area.

Other members of the delegation also accompanied the UN envoy on the occasion.
