Canadian singer and actor Rupinder “Rup” Singh Magon has advised both India and Pakistan to give peace a chance, after visiting the newly-opened Katarpur corridor in Pakistan.
Magon, who is also a member of the popular Canadian band ‘Josh’, travelled from Lahore to Narowal, in Pakistan, on a cold and foggy morning. In his video blog, the singer documents his journey to Gurdwara Darbar Sahib, in a small town of Katarpur on the bank of River Ravi.
“I am very excited,” he says before heading to the town, “My knees are shaking.”
In November, Prime Minister Imran Khan opened the first-of-its-kind visa-free corridor connecting India and Pakistan, which allows Indian Sikh pilgrims to visit.
“This is the area where everyone can get together,” Magon said standing in the courtyard of the gurdwara, Everyone, Pakistani or Indian, irrespective of their faith, religion and country. It is like how it used to be before there were any lines drawn to separate people.”
The camera then follows the actor as he talks to the visiting yatrees, sits down at a langar and finally ends his trip at the Sikh museum in Katarpur.
“It is moving trip,” he said, “I wish everyone could experience what I am experiencing. More than anything it was amazing seeing Pakistanis and Indians laughing and rejoicing together.”
He ends his vlog with the message to both countries: “Let’s give peace a chance.”
