LAHORE: Acting General Manger Railways, Anjum Pervez said a decision to close 40-50 branch line trains permanently was being considered in an effort to overcome the decline being faced by the railways and to ensure that trains run on schedule, Geo News reported.

Speaking during a press conference at the Railway Headquarters, Pervez apologized for the problems faced by passengers due to delays and said the situation would improve soon.

Speaking in regards to the approval of the fund package for the railways by the federal government, he said that this amount would be used to rebuild 100 old engines, 500 passenger coaches, 650 grid wagons and 50 power vans on an emergency basis.

Pervez further said that the amount of oil purchased from PSO on loan had been increase from Rs 1 billion to Rs 2 billion and since an emergency had been declared by the Pakistan Railways, all purchasing would be done on a single tender basis from concerned companies.
