TOKYO: Japan Airlines said on Monday that one of its cabin attendants tested positive for coronavirus, as Japan struggles to contain the spread of the virus.

The infection comes after local media reported that one person in Kanagawa prefecture had died from the virus, bringing the country’s death toll so far to 15, including seven from the quarantined cruise ship near Tokyo.

Last week, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said that his country will quarantine all passengers coming from China and South Korea as the government has amplified efforts to fight the new coronavirus.

"We will strengthen immigration quarantines on people from the two countries," Shinzo Abe told a cabinet-level taskforce meeting on the virus.
