RAWALPINDI: Heavy rain lashes in twin cities on Monday, the City District Government Rawalpindi (CDGR) gets alert on Nullah Leh to avoid flood like situation as experienced in the past.
The administration, Rescue 1122 and civil defence were remain alert as low lying areas always flooded.
New Katrian was among the most vulnerable areas during the monsoon season. However, the residents of low lying areas particularly WarisKhan, Glass Factory, Mokh Singh State, Dhoke Khaba, Umer Road, Nadeem Colony, Dhoke Elahi Bukush, Arya Mohallah, Javed Colony demanded more steps to minimize the danger of flood.
Muhammad Arshad from Nadeem Colony said that there is dire need to clean the nullahs properly adding that main reason of the flood is blockage of the nullahs.
He stressed that silt and solid waste should be taken out to save the people from the flood devastation. As Punjab government had provided Rs 47 million for cleanliness of Nullah Lia but mainly in low lying areas have not been cleared from silt and solid waste, he said, adding the nullahs should further widened and deepened to save the city from flood devastations.
It is mentioned that the City District Government Rawalpindi (CDGR) has made other arrangements with setting up of flood relief camps to provide relief to the people in case of heavy monsoon rains.
The Metrological department has predicted more rains during this monsoon season as compared to the last year.
