RAWALPINDI: District Coordination Officer (DCO) Rawalpindi Saqib Zafar has said that civil society alongwith district administration and police should play a vital role to maintain law and order situation and to curb crime. He said concerted efforts should be made to control crime and terrorism.

He said the district administration and police have made foolproof security arrangements for Mahafil-e-Shabina, Chand Raat and Eid-ul-Fiter prayer congregations but the cooperation of traders and other segments of civil society was need of the hour.

He was addressing the office bearers of various trade unions and religious scholars. City Police Officer (CPO) Azhar Hameed KhoKhar, President Anjman-e-Tajran Sheikh Muhammad Saddique, Senior Vice President Sharjeel Mir, Patrain-in-Chief Ch. Muhammad Iqbal, President Anjuman-e-Tajran City Shahid Maqbool Paracha, President Karyana merchants Association Cantt Haji Abdul Hameed were also present on this occasion.

The DCO while condemning the recent robbery on a jewellery shop, said efforts were being made to trace the culprits. The police patrolling would be enhanced after Eid-ul-Fiter, however, the jewellers should hire private security guards so that in case of emergency immediate response could be given which would be fully supported by the police.

CPO Rawalpindi Azhar Hameed Khokhar while addressing the participants said that Police has meager resources but best efforts are being made to make foolproof security arrangements. The traders, money changers, banks and financial institutions should get services of security guards so that maximum security arrangements could be made to meet any situation.

He said the police department is making best security arrangements particularly for Ramzan-ul-Mubarik. Special check posts would also be established on exit points of the district after Eid, he added.
