LAHORE:Punjab police on Wednesday confirmed they had arrested a man whose dog had allegedly attacked a boy selling toys in a family park in the city's Iqbal Town.

In a video that went viral on social media, the boy was seen in bloodied clothes after the attack near Lahore's Moon Market as people tried to help him while the owner of the dog tried to keep the canine away.

When some of the bystanders attempted to assist the little boy stand, he fell back down, crying out in pain.

"Balloon-selling boy becomes a victim of an elite's dog. Will there be a case against him? Will he be punished? Or will he, too, be handed a plot as a settlement," read the caption with the original video posted by Twitter user RubinaBashir11.

The deputy inspector-general of police for operations in Lahore confirmed that a case has been filed and the accused arrested.

"[The] parents of the victim refused to proceed against the culprit but on directions of DIG Operations Lahore, FIR was registered with police as complainant," a tweet posted on police officerRai Babar Saeed's account read.

In another tweet, Lahore's Dolphin Squad shared a picture of the boy after he was treated by doctors. The boy was seen raising a victory sign, surrounded by officers and sporting bandages on his legs and fingers.

Later,Child Protection & Welfare Bureau (CP&WB) Chairperson Sarah Ahmad commended the Lahore police as well as her focal persons "for looking into the matter, visiting the innocent boy who was attacked & offering them to bring the boy to our bureau".
