GALLE: Heavy early morning rain has delayed the start of the third day's play in the first cricket Test between Australia and Sri Lanka in Galle on Friday.

The entire ground was under covers 30 minutes before the scheduled start at 10 am (0430 GMT) as overcast skies threatened more rain. Australia were due to resume their second innings at 115-6, an overall lead of 283 runs on the dusty, deteriorating wicket. Usman Khawaja was unbeaten on two and Mitchell Johnson was on three.
