A darkness will descend over many parts of the Earth today (Sunday) as a solar eclipse takes place.
Do's and don'ts of a solar eclipse:
According to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) one should not directly look at the sun as the rays can harm vision. Hence, for those looking to sight the sun, one should use special-purpose solar filters or ‘eclipse glasses’.
NASA has also recommended one shields his/her eyes before looking at the sun and remove the glasses only when you have looked away or the eclipse is over for good.
One should not even use binoculars to spot the sun during this time as it could run the risk of injury to the eyes from the powerful rays of the sun.
An important don't during the solar eclipse is driving. The American Automobile Association (AAA) advises against driving during an eclipse and if one must, then he/she should turn on the car's headlights for better vision.
However, if you must drive your car, make sure to keep a safe distance between other vehicles on the road as everyone might not be following the same safety precautions. Driving slow will also avert accidents during the eclipse when it's quite dark out there.
It is considered safe to park your car and then witness the eclipse. With the eclipse glasses, of course.
Do not view the sun with normal sunglasses or glasses, for that matter.
