HYDERABAD: Because of torrential monsoon rains, Provincial Minister for Fisheries, Zahid Ali Bhurgari, asked the concerned government departments to assess the losses-cum-damages to government and private buildings, properties and crops so that relief could be provided to the rain-affected people.
All rain victims from Hyderabad and the interior of Sindh should be shifted to camps set up in Hyderabad Sabzi Mandi so that they might get food, medical treatment and other facilities, said the minister and chairman of the District Monitoring Relief Committee, during a meeting of the committee held at the Zila Nazim Secretariat, Hyderabad.
Members of the Provincial Assembly (MPAs), Zubair Ahmad Khan, Muhammad Akram Adil, Waseem Husain, Suhail Yousuf, Peer Amjad Husain Shah Jilani and Syed Husain Shah Bukhari; District Coordination Officer Hyderabad and others officials attended the meeting, a press release said on Wednesday.
The minister and the MPAs were told that five people were killed in the recent monsoon rains in different incidents, while the assessment of the losses to crops had been completed. However, the assessment of other losses, including government and private building-cum-properties live stocks were being prepared.
The participants were also briefed that the Provincial District Management Authority (PDMA) and others provided 250 tents, 200 mosquito nets, 500 wheat-flour sacks and other goods to the rain victims.
