PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Mahmood Khan on Sunday said that the province achieved yet another milestone as Executive Committee of National Economic Council (ECNEC) has accorded approval to two vital projects — Khyber Pass Economic Corridor and Swat Motorway Phase-2.

The chief minister said the Khyber Pass Economic Corridor project will be constructed with the financial support of the World Bank and would cost an estimated $460 million.

Under this project, he said a four-lane, 48 kilometre-long highway would be constructed from Peshawar to Khyber Pass.

The project also includes the establishment of Marble Industrial State and the development of small and big industries of the area.

Khan said the project would help generate employment for more than one hundred thousand people and will immensely boost Pak-Afghan trade activities. He added that the Khyber Pass Economic Corridor will make possible access to the Central Asian States.

Under the Swat Motorway project, the chief minister said a four-lane, 80 kilometre-long motorway will be constructed from Chakdara to Fateh Pur.

He said that this project will not only benefit the people of Malakand but will also prove valuable for people across the country, especially from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Khan said that during a time when the economy is facing a decline, the projects will provide a boost to tourism, trade, and industrial activities in the province.

The chief minister said that the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are thankful to the federal government and Prime Minister Imran Khan for approving these two major projects for the province.
