RAWALPINDI: Rawalpindi has most modern traffic control system which has been initially installed at six main intersections of Benazir Bhutto Road (Murree Road), said Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Zahid Saeed.
He informed that Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) had signed Rs 32 million agreement with a foreign company for installing a software to control traffic in the city.
The new traffic control system which has been installed is now working with an Australian software which is successfully working in 154 cities of 25 countries worldwide.
He told that according to the agreement, Tollink will install modern traffic control system at 19 busy intersections of Rawalpindi city. The software automatically turns the signals green and red according to the volume of the traffic, he added.
The control room of the system has been set up in Rawalpindi Development Authority's building. Initially, system has been installed on the most overloaded intersections of the city.
The traffic control system will also be installed on other intersections of the town, he said.He said the modern traffic control system has been installed in the country for the first time and it will help control traffic load which has become a great trouble for the citizens. He said the new traffic control system measures traffic load at intersections through censors and turns the signals, green or red according to the traffic load.
The commissioner said all the intersections where the most modern traffic control system will be installed would also have security camera facility which will help control crime in the city.
