Britain's Watson ousts fifth seed Arvidsson

QUEBEC CITY: Britain's Heather Watson ousted Swedish fifth seed Sofia Arvidsson 7-5, 6-3 on Wednesday to reach the quarter-finals of the $220,000 WTA Quebec City Challenge.

Watson advanced to a Friday matchup against Austrian third seed Tamira Paszek, who outlasted American Varvara Lepchenko 6-7 (2/7), 6-3, 7-6 (7/4).

Canadian fourth seed Rebecca Marino advanced by beating compatriot Aleksandra Wozniak 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.

She will next face Dutchwoman Michaella, who ousted France's Julie Coin 7-5, 4-6, 6-1.

Slovakian top seed Daniela Hantuchova will face Hungary's Melinda Czink on Thursday for a berth in Friday's quarter-finals. Czech second seed Lucie Safarova will face compatriot Andrea Hlavackova in another Thursday match.
