QUETTA: Three day special Anti Polio drive would commence on September 19 in 12 districts of Balochistan in collaboration with UNICEF and WHO. These districts are Quetta, Pishin, Killa Abdullah, Nasirabad, Jaffarabad, Noshki, Khuzdar, Dera Bugti, Kohlu, Jhal Magsi and Lasbella.

During the campaign health Department teams would visit door to door and administer children upto 5 years of age polio drops.

Special arrangements have also been made for travelling children and children of nomadic families along highways and road.

It may be added here that p0lio is a very dangerous and incurable disease in which children become disabled for life.

According to official sources during the past 8 months 34 cases of polio have been reported in Balochistan which is highest in Pakistan. Of these 13 cases have been reported in Killa Abdullah, 8 in Pishin, 4 in Quetta, 3 in Khuzdar and one each in Kalat, Dera Bugti and Noshki.

From one polio affected child nearly 200 others can be affected. This disease is becoming very dangerous in Killa Abdullah and Pishin which was causing serious concern among the children.

It may be added here that with the financial assistance of Japan payment of honoraria of polio teams has been increased.
