ISLAMABAD: The new naval chief Admiral M Asif Sandila has taken charge as new naval chief Friday, Geo News reported.

Upholding the principle of seniority, President Asif Ali Zardari on Wednesday appointed Vice Admiral M Asif Sandila as chief of naval staff (CNS). The president also promoted Sandila to the rank of Admiral

The change of command ceremony was held at Naval Headquarters, Islamabad.

Sandila is succeeding Admiral Noman Bashir who completed his three-year term on Friday (October 7, 2011) and handed over the command to the new naval chief today.

Admiral Sandila was welcomed by a guard of honor.
