Geo News impact: CNG bus operations to start Monday

KARACHI: The CNG buses would start plying from tomorrow after Governor Sindh, Dr. Ishratul Ebad Khan took notice of a Geo News report regarding the buses.

According to Administrator Karachi, 20 buses have been repaired on urgent bases on the directives of Sindh Governor.

City District Government, Karachi (CDGK) in 2009 had launched a service comprising of 50 CNG buses at the cost Rs250 million, which seems to have gone down the drain as these buses are seen lying abandoned for quite some time.

Karachiites were given this good news two years ago that 50 air-conditioned buses have started serving passengers travelling between Tower, Korangi and Sarjani but this happy relief couldn't last long as these buses were left abandoned wheel-jammed.

Additional EDO Transport, Muhammad Athar had said that the contractor to whom the buses were given for plying on contract didn't fulfill the obligation of maintenance and repair of these buses and left abandoned.

Karachiites are of the opinion that the playing of CNG buses had given them some relief from the transport mafia of which they have been deprived as all the 50 buses are lying abandoned in Sarjani Town wasting millions spent on buying them, while the employees including the drivers and the conductors have been rendered jobless. A latest report said that CDGK is looking for a new contractor for running these buses once again.
