PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakthunkhwa government will launch 29 projects for development of technical education, manpower training and industry with prime focus on construction of educational infrastructure, women colleges and establishment of vocational institutes.

Official sources told APP on Sunday that government accords high priority to technical education and has decided to improve infrastructure facilities and provide equipments to the upgraded Government Polytechnic Institutes (GPIs) at Timergara Dir Lower,
Takhtbai Mardan, Swabi, Abbottabad, Kohat and Nowshera to the level
of college technology to cater the modern days' needs.

The official said the cost of the project is Rs.800million against which Rs.128million would be spent in current fiscal year. To provide quality technical education to people at their doorsteps, the government was giving top attention to construction of commerce colleges in Khyber Pakthunkhwa.

As many as Rs.170million would be spent on construction of building of second Commerce College at Nowshera district while Rs30million have been earmarked for fiscal year 2011-12.

The government would construct building for Govt. Polytechnic Institute (GPI) Batkhela Malakand Agency costing Rs200million and land for this mega project has been acquired.

Construction of Govt. Technical and Vocational Centre and Commerce College for Women at Mardan costing Rs100million and Rs170million respectively and establishment of second GCMS at DI Khan costing Rs.170 million would provide better opportunities to youth to get quality technical education close to their homes.

The official said Government accords high priority to construction of vocational institutes at earthquake hit areas of Hazara Division and Rs.170 million would be spent on construction of Commerce College Balakot for which Rs.30million have been set aside in current fiscal year. Likewise, land has been acquired for construction of Government
Commerce College for Women at Abbottabad that would be completed with an estimated cost of Rs160 million.

The land for establishment of Govt. Commerce College for Women at Rani Lower Dir has been acquired on which Rs160 million would be spent on its building.

Establishment of GPI at Peshawar costing Rs200million, GCMS at Kulachi DI Khan costing Rs170million, construction of building of Commerce College at Karak costing Rs170million, bachelor hostel at Govt. College Management Sciences Kohat costing Rs.15million,
up-gradation and modernization of Govt. College of Technology Peshawar costing Rs100million and establishment of GPI for Women at
Timergara costing Rs200million would be build on modern lines and earthquake proof structures.

The official said government would introduce vocational and skill training for prisoners in Central Prisons of KPK for which Rs100 million would be spent, saying that Rs.25million were set aside for this gigantic scheme in current fiscal.

The government has decided to revamp Directorate of Technical Education at Gulbahar Peshawar besides up-grading Govt. Teacher's
Training College and reconstruction of GTVC Women D.I.Khan.

The official said that procurement of equipments and machinery, furniture and library books for GPIs and equipments for GCMSs/GCTIs in KPK has been included in the ADP 2011-12. In addition to continuation of twelve (12) Government Technical Vocational Centers (GTVCs) established by NAVTEC in uncovered tehsils costing Rs10 million, the government decided to make consultancy for assessment and improvement of TEVT system in KPK.

To promote industries in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the government would
launch five mega schemes including construction of building for GPI Mansehra, introduction of public/private partnership in ATTC Hayatabad, GTVC Gulbahar and GCT Peshawar, setting up GTVC at Kolachi D.I.Khan, Skill Development Cernter in Chitral and Revamping and up-gradation of the Govt. Printing and Stationery Department Peshawar.

The official said these new schemes would be completed at and estimated cost of Rs 3,845 million rupees against which Rs 1007 million would be spent this year. (APP)
