FAISALABAD: An accused of theft was tortured and set on fire allegedly by the police here on Saturday.

Azeem (16) was taken into custody by the Nishatabad police on the charge of lifting motorcycles four days ago and during investigation police allegedly tortured and set him on fire. The victim was shifted to the Allied Hospital in a critical condition.

According to doctors, his 30 percent body received severe burnt injuries.

Azeem told the media that he belonged to a poor family and has no source of income. He claimed that he had been implicated in two false cases of motorcycles lifting.

DPO Faisalabad took notice of the incident and suspended the ASI Saeed Anwar and other investigation officers and ordered SP Madina Town Samad Qamar to complete inquiry into the matter within 48 hours.
