ISLAMABAD: The PC-1 for setting up five science centres in different cities of the country was on Monday discussed at a workshop here before submitting it to the Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST) and onward to the Planning Commission of Pakistan for approval.

The consultative workshop was presided over by Chairman of Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF) Prof. Dr. Manzoor H Soomro, said a press release issued here.

Those who attended the one-day workshop included PSF Member Science Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto, PMNH Director General Dr. Syed Azhar Hasan and representatives of the provincial governments and the universities, which have donated land for setting up the science
centers.

PSF Director Planning and Development Dr. Darakhshanda Kokub in a presentation highlighted aims and objectives of the plan for setting up new five science centres, their possible locations, acquisition of land, phase-wise programme and the project cost.

Dr. Soomro highlighted PSF activities to promote science culture in the country in collaboration with R&D organization, especially the universities and the provincial governments, for the socio-economic development of the country.

The participants of the workshop gave their input for finalizing the PC-1.

Additional Secretary Shaigan Shareef Malik chaired the concluding session of the workshop.

He said the science centres' project should be in line with the S&T Innovation Policy. (APP)
