RAWALPINDI: Rawalpindi City Traffic Police (RCTP) issued 70,207 challan tickets and fined amounting to over Rs 13.1 million on traffic rules violations while as many as 196 beggars were arrested from city roads during the month of September.

Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Ghulam Abbas Tarar informed that city traffic police in its efforts to clear city roads from all types of hurdles has arrested 196 beggars during the period while 625 vehicles and motorcycles were impounded in different police stations on severe traffic rules violations.

Several drivers were also sent behind the bars, he added.

In August total 79 cases were registered against 128 persons on charge of beggary.

He informed that special squads of city traffic police with two vehicles each for Rawal region and Potohar region remain on duty on the city roads from 8am to 12 pm.

CTO said that action in accordance with the law was taken against 505 vehicles with tinted glasses.

Challan slips have been issued to 2201 drivers for using mobile phone while driving.

As many as 2753 drivers were fined for wrong parking.

While 852 motorcyclists were issued challan tickets for various traffic rules violations while 9204 two-wheelers who were without helmet were issued challan slips during the period.

As many as 2010 vehicles on violation of route permits, 190 under age drivers, 260 on pressure horns, 124 vehicles without proper light were issued challan tickets while 714 drivers were imposed fines on negligence and dangerous driving, he added.

As many as 253 drivers for creating hurdles in smooth flow of traffic, 4028 for violating lane/line, 16,626 on violation of zebra crossing were issued challan tickets, he said adding, 505 on wrong parking while 2753 vehicles were fined for wrong side driving.

The CTO said that special campaigns were also launched last month against traffic rule violation while under a campaign, the citizens are also being educated regarding traffic rules and road safety.

Education Wing of Traffic Police is making efforts to spread awareness so that the road journey could be made safe and sound.

The CTO urged the people to cooperate with traffic wardens as they are on the roads to facilitate them.
