KARACHI: The figures released by the government itself seem to be jeering at the hollow claims of the rulers, as the Sensitive Price Index (SPI) shows further hike in prices of essentials items, Geo News reported Saturday.
The price of tomatoes climbed 66 percent expensive, powdered milk 22 percent and edible oil rose 26 percent while the rate of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) shot up by 20 percent.
The Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS) releases a weekly report containing SPI of 53 essential items. The report for the week ended on October 27, 2011 said that the SPI recorded 7.68 percent increase in prices of essential goods compared to the same period last year.
Besides the rates of petrol rose by 33 percent, diesel 27 percent and that of kerosene oil by 28 percent during the period in question.
