WASHINGTON: YouTube and the Saudi Ministry of Culture and Information are teaming up to provide a live-stream of the annual hajj pilgrimage to Makkah.

"Millions of people from around the world will be able to experience and comment on the event by tuning in via video," the Google-owned video-sharing site said in a blog post.

The live-stream from Makkah is located at youtube.com/hajjlive.

YouTube said it was being produced in cooperation with the Saudi Ministry of Culture and Information.

More than 2.5 million Muslim pilgrims began the rites of the hajj on Friday, leaving Makkah for Mount Arafat, where the prophet Mohammed is believed to have delivered his final hajj sermon. (AFP)
