Islamabad: Four newly appointed judges of the Supreme Court were sworn in on Thursday in a ceremony held at Supreme Court building. Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry administered the oath.

Judges, federal and provincial law officers and a number of lawyers of the apex court attended the ceremony.

The newly appointed judges are Justice Chaudhry Ijaz Ahmed, Justice Ejaz Afzal, Justice Gulzar Ahmed and Justice Athar Saeed. The number of Supreme Court judges now rose to 17.

President Asif Ali Zardari appointed the judges on the advice of the Prime Minister as recommended and approved by the Judicial Commission of Pakistan and the Parliamentary Committee on appointment of judges.
