RAWALPINDI: The construction of a hostel on the campus of Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) will be started soon as formal approval in this regard has already been obtained.

Dr. Samina Amin Qadir, Vice-Chancellor of FJWU, stated this during a 'meet the press' session on the Rehearsal Day of Convocation in the syndicate room of university on Tuesday.

The hostel, which will be constructed at a cost of Rs152 million, will accommodate 260 girls. The project will be completed within one and a half year period, she said.

The VC said that at present the accommodation available at the University is insufficient for both the students and the faculty members.

She said presently, the university is running a hostel in a Civil Works Department building, which accommodates 70 students and has hired 12 other buildings to house over 700 students.

To cope with the ever-increasing demand for accommodation, the VC said they had planned to build a hostel building on the campus.

Female teachers are also facing accommodation problem, as they are not given official residences or hiring facilities, Dr Qadir added.

Responding to a question the VC said the FJWU would have a much higher rank in the list of Higher Education Commission rankings, once the faculty members after completing their PhDs from abroad join it. (APP)
